It was
like a dream. Two year back in my life, I had all the fun that I wanted without
any kind of limitation. All of a sudden, everything changed with the outbreak
of Covid 19 viral pandemic.
"Pandemic"
was the first strange word which was added to my vocabulary and sooner it was
filled with a number of new words related to the viral disease. The habitual
life I spent came to an end without even giving a chance to take a look at the
beautiful moments I had with my loved ones. With the unexpected viral infection, which
attacks human respiratory system and immunity system, people of Sri Lanka had
to change their habitual life style in 180°. People had to cover their
respiratory organs using face masks and they started to wipe their hands using
hand sanitizer liquids. It was the first visible change in the habitual life of
Sri Lankans. Government had to implement new laws and reinforce the Quarantine
legal provisions in order to minimize the spread of this deadly virus. People
had to tolerate months of curfew ignoring their personal difficulties while the
highly dedicated health sector were risking their lives to save the infected
people.
This
is a tiny living virus which threatened the powerful human community, and it
forced everyone to adjust according to the situation.
The
concept of "work from home" came into practice with the health
policies. There, the superiors allowed their subordinates to complete their job
role while staying safe. Online learning methods were introduced to continue
the educational activities as the government could not risk the lives of
children. Therefore, from the primary schools to the universities followed the
same way of online teaching.
We all
know that, Sri Lanka is a country with a great tourist attraction. But because
of the viral pandemic, almost all the airports were closed and no one could
travel across the countries. So, the people who were engaged in tourism related
jobs had to face a critical condition. Not only the tourists but also the
foreign employed Sri Lankans could not come to the island and it was a great
challenge to the government. After several meetings and discussions, with
some conditions and limitations, Sri Lankan government started the tourism
industry again under severe health guidelines.
We are
still living with the virus, but we can't hold our lives till the virus is
demolished. Government can only impose laws. We, the community must obey and
follow the rules. Then we can defeat this threatening deadly challenge together
